Context & concept:
The changing colors and movement within each unique print of our artwork reflects an “aura” of the changing moods of visitors. This is in line with one of AZ Alma’s core values: accessibility, where each patient is indiscriminately treated, because they are seen with a soul, an “aura.” The wachtkamer space, with the accessibility of artwork greeting them, goes from being static to
dynamic, where an instant community of reflection is birthed: everyone visiting is united at that moment while waiting for their loved ones.
(NL) Bij de gewaarwording van de telkens andere kunstwerken in de verschillende wachtkamers verandert er iets. Joke Raes har werken veroorzaken een positieve dynamiek door de verandering van kleur en lichtschakering bij het bekijken vanuit een andere hoek. Ieder werk tracht de bezoeker te verrassen en te doen dromen, even weg van spanning en angsten of ter versterking van nakende vreugde.

The Atrium, both an architectural and anatomical word, symbolizes the heart of AZ Alma, where people from diverse backgrounds come together under caring hands. This is within in various guises, moods, and ages, and is referred to by the nostalgia of shadow puppets. The textile refers to the shifting boundary line of a hospital curtain, behind which lives the stories and emotions of every patient.

Het 'Atrium' symboliseert het hart van AZ Alma, daar waar mensen met diverse identiteiten samenkomen op zoek naar zorgende handen. Deze zijn zichtbaar in allerlei gedaanten, belichamen
verschillende gemoedstoestanden, generaties en refereren naar nostalgische schaduwfiguren. De textiel verwijst naar een verschuifbare scheidingslijn tussen de buitenwereld en die van een
ziekenhuisbed. Hier achter leven verhalen en emoties van mensen die even of voorgoed patiënt zijn.
