Context & concept “Devil's Advocate” is a multifaceted performance, emerging from the enigmatic entanglements of humans with darkness, seduction and (dis-)appearance.
In reflexive, alternate and myriadic observations of the devil, musical figures guise in mirror pieces. The devil as mankind's contradiction, existence from nothingness. Masks concealing manifestations of interchangeable, flexible and elastic desire for unattainable love, trapped within the self. The performance highlights underlying veins of man, the devil and the works in the exhibition "Sympathy for the Devil" at Vanhaerents Art Collection. In Joke Raes refutation of the devil stereotype, she conceals it in singular wearable sculptures.
Who: concept and design: Joke Raes. Performance: Gala Moody (Devil's Death Lady in the space of James Lee Byars), Luth Lea Roose (Amorphous Devil), Leen De Graeve (Captured Love), Charlotte Van Wouwe (Succulent Red Devil).
